Welcome to the Tarana Hotel – A True Local Gem in the Heart of Tarana Valley
Tucked away in the stunning Tarana Valley, where the scenery is as breathtaking as the company, you’ll find the Tarana Hotel — a country pub with a rich history that stretches back to 1873. It’s a place where tradition meets modern comfort, and where locals, travelers, and car clubs alike gather to enjoy good food, drink, and community spirit.
Our journey with the Tarana Hotel began in 2022, when we found ourselves sitting around the bar with the then publican, chatting about her plans to sell the pub. What started as a casual conversation quickly turned into a more serious discussion, and within weeks, we had purchased the pub and started a new chapter in hospitality. The vision was simple — improve the pub without losing its heritage, and most importantly, keep it as the local hub that the community loved.
The transition wasn’t without its challenges. In fact, it was a baptism of fire. On the night we took over, the previous publican officially closed her tills at 5pm, and at 7pm, we “officially” opened for business. In that two-hour gap, the locals didn’t miss a beat — they were back at the bar and ready to continue their time-honored traditions. It was a learning curve, but one we embraced, and with the support of the local community, we’ve brought the Tarana Hotel back to life, operating at a level it hadn’t seen in years.
At the Tarana Hotel, we’ve worked hard to elevate what’s offered, especially in our bistro. We’re proud to serve more than just the standard pub fare. Our elevated menu features regular special dining events, and we’ve partnered with Mumma Snow’s kitchen across the road for breakfast, ensuring that every meal, whether lunch or dinner, is something worth traveling for. But we haven’t forgotten our roots — you’ll still find those classic pub meals that make a country pub feel like home.
We’re also a proudly pokie and gaming-free venue, focusing instead on local produce, and supporting local businesses like nearby breweries, distilleries, wineries, and primary producers. It’s about bringing the best of the region to your plate and your glass.
The Tarana Hotel is more than just a place to eat and drink; it’s a melting pot of culture. With regulars, including local farmers who have frequented this pub for generations, and a steady stream of tourists traveling the scenic route from Lithgow to Bathurst, there’s always something happening here. Our beer garden is especially popular on Sundays, often packed with travelers, and the sight of historic cars and motorcycles lined up outside is a regular weekend feature. The Tarana Hotel has become a must-visit stop on the popular tourist trail, where history, culture, and great food collide.
As locals ourselves, just 10 minutes up the road, we have a deep connection to this beautiful valley. The view from our beer garden is something we cherish daily — we believe it rivals some of the most breathtaking pub vistas in all of NSW. Running this pub has been a dream come true, and we’re committed to making it even better with every passing year.
Looking ahead, we have plans to improve the accommodation at the Tarana Hotel. While we have cabins available, they haven’t seen updates in some time, and it’s time to give them the overhaul they deserve. We want to ensure that both locals and travelers have the best possible experience when they visit us, whether for a meal, a drink, or an overnight stay.
